Artist's Statement

As a body of work, my art serves as equally self-explorative and communicative. Through drawing, sculpture and painting I explore my own views of society and the world around me.

Though there are materials that I prefer above others, I use anything that I can get my hands on. For drawing I use charcoal, graphite, conte, soft pencil crayons, pastels of all sorts, ink and markers. In sculpture I have used clay and plaster, though I prefer more unconventional materials. I try to link the material to the subject matter rationally to properly convey the meaning of the piece. The processes that are involved in the creation of my artwork vary from sketches to poetry and sometimes 3-D sketches to show form. Of course, each process is different and I cannot possibly describe it in broad terms.

Within my body of work I have tackled issues of spirituality, sexual deviation; worked with concepts of purity, our roles within nature and the world itself. I would describe my portraits and factual work as deviating from fact and incorporating my own interpretations of the model and subject matter- be it lanscape, portrait or life. I create and deal with the subject matters that I do for many reasons, the first and foremost being a compulsion to explore and document the world around me. Art is a recording of the present time period but also of my views of that period. I will always stray toward the concept of "my part in the grander scheme of things", so much that my artwork tends to be self-portraiture in nature.

I strive only to thrust forward in my own adventure of the "art world" and develop my work to its gretest extent.

Statement of Intent

I have decided during my time of instruction at Sheridan College that my long-term goal is to work in galleries promoting and contributing to the art world. In steps towards acheiving that I have completed the Art Fundamentals certificate at Sheridan College and am currently in my last semester of their Fine Arts certificate program. I would like to attend Concordia University where a multitude of learning experiences are open to me. At Concordia I will have the oppertunity to work in studio alongside my peers as well as learn from the greats of the past through a major in art history adn studio arts.

My primary intention at Concordia University is to gain a greater understanding of myself and my own art while experiencing the inspiration of my peers' artwork.
